“Dance Lab at the Barn”

Amidst the personal and collective lockdown grief of 2020, I stumbled upon an unexpected corollary to my “I MISS DANCING IN PERSON SO FREAKING MUCH” tantrums & sorrow. And that was: despite more than a decade of fervent & dedicated community dancing there lurked within me a deeply buried, unacknowledged and/or summarily & repeatedly dismissed longing for a committed dance partnership in which I could learn and grow as a duet dancer. This startling revelation of what felt at the time like profound self-betrayal and which was initially accompanied by much weeping on the floor evolved into an inner resolve to conjure up an appropriate self-honoring remedy. It took more than a year and a few dead ends but by the fall of 2021 that remedy had found its form as a weekly “Dance Lab in the Barn” with fellow community dance member David Linden. (THANK YOU DAVID!)

This video serves as a little window into the duet dance that emerged. (Filmed by Jonah David at “The Barn” in Seekonk in the summer of 2023.)

What’s YOUR unexplored inner longing and what are YOU waiting for?
